Pain management services support people who live with ongoing discomfort that affects daily activities, work, and rest. Modern techniques have expanded the options available, giving patients and providers more ways to address sources of discomfort. Adults recovering from injuries, individuals managing chronic conditions, and patients healing after surgery may all need pain specialist services. Here is information on advanced pain management treatments and their benefits:

    Regenerative Medicine Options

Regenerative medicine focuses on using the body’s own resources to support healing; one common approach is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP therapy uses a sample of your own blood, which is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. This is because platelets contain growth factors that play a role in the body’s natural repair processes.

During treatment, a provider injects the concentrated platelets into the targeted area, such as a joint, tendon, or soft tissue. Some people receive a single session, while others complete a series over several weeks. These sessions aim to support the body’s repair activity in key areas. Individual responses vary, and a specialist can explain what a typical session involves and what factors may benefit your pain management plan.

    Kyphoplasty

Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure often recommended for certain spinal compression fractures. During the procedure, a provider inserts a small balloon into the affected vertebra and inflates it to create space. The provider then fills that space with a specialized cement to stabilize the bone. The procedure is usually performed with imaging guidance to help the provider work precisely. Recovery times differ from person to person, and a specialist can review whether this option aligns with your specific diagnosis and overall health.

    Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulation is a technique that uses a small device to deliver mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord. These pulses change how certain nerve signals are perceived. This system may not work for everyone, so this approach is generally discussed after other treatments have been explored. A spinal cord stimulation system includes thin leads placed near the spinal cord and a small generator positioned under the skin. The generator sends signals to the leads. Providers program the device to focus on specific areas, which patients can adjust, and refine settings over time to match their needs.

All candidates for this surgery start with a temporary trial before a permanent device is placed. During the trial, the leads are positioned externally so a patient can evaluate how the therapy feels during daily activities. This step helps your provider decide whether a permanent system is a reasonable next step. If the trial device doesn’t reduce pain effectively, other management options will be explored.

    Contact a Pain Management Specialist

A pain specialist can review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, and explain which techniques are appropriate for your situation. Every person’s situation is different, so a personalized evaluation is fundamental to finding a management plan that works for your condition. To manage your pain effectively, contact a pain management specialist to schedule a consultation.
